About BIAD

As a faculty of Birmingham City University, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) is one of the largest and most prestigious institutes of art, architecture and design education in the United Kingdom. With a history that dates back to 1843, BIAD offers a comprehensive portfolio of courses for almost 4,000 students at all levels, from further education to higher research.

In the recent Research Assessment Exercise 2008 (RAE 2008), a total of 60 per cent of the research in BIAD was judged to be of ‘world-leading’ or internationally excellent quality. The results have confirmed BIAD as being in the UK’s top 10 of world-leading research institutions of art and design.

Our distinguished staff are well established art and design professionals who provide a remarkable range of expertise. The provision of a high standard of teaching is illustrated by the achievements of BIAD’s students and the high profile list of alumni.
